Black Stone Cherry is a Southern hard rock/Alternative band from Kentucky. Their self-titled debut album helped them gain a fan base among anyone that loves catchy driving rock. Their sophomore release will not be a let down to any of those fans that they won on their first album, however the only problem is that there really is no change from the first album to this one (if you can call that a problem). Expect the addition of synthesizers, which only makes them sound even more like a modern day Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The over all theme of "Folklore and Superstition" seems to be that "life is hard, but it is the only one that you have so enjoy it". Their sound, for the most part, has stayed the same - not too heavy, but just enough edge to keep them in the genre. The album is full of very catchy riffs and songwriting (even if they can seem generic at times), enjoyable guitar solos, and over the top songs such as "Peace is Free" and "Things my Father Said". Some of the best tracks are: "Peace is Free", "You", "Long Sleeves", and my favorite "The Ghost of Floyd Collins"
"Folklore and Superstition" is the kind of album you can put in the cd player of a truck on a Southern night and crank up around a bonfire and sing off key with all your friends. It may not be life changing or groundbreaking, but it is enjoyable and fun.
