For those of you who are not familiar with the band Circle II Circle, it is the new project from Zak Stevens (Former singer of Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra). Who I had the honor of meeting at ProgPower USA IX, and is one of the most down to earth people you will ever meet.
Delusions of Grandeur is the forth album from Circle II Circle. If you have never heard Circle II Circle it is a little hard to describe them. My fellow reviewer David and I were talking about how to classify them, and we decided they are some where between Hard Rock and Progressive Metal. If you are familiar with Savatage then you know a little of what to expect.
This is the first album by the band that was not produced by Jim Morris (Iced Earth, Demons & Wizards) and the mixing is missing his magical touch. The drum tracks on this album sound as if they were not given the love that they needed during the mixing. There is also times that the music and the vocals do not seem to match, of course that is kind of a signature trademark of Circle II Circle.
The Musicianship on this album is incredible. The drums, the bass, there are even some really nice piano parts thrown in every now and then, that all are amazing. The guitar players on this album do some catchy riffing and some insane solos. And the vocals well…..this is Zak Stevens, the only person whose voice has ever almost brought me to tears.
The Songwriting, let just say it will move you. "My thoughts only bring confusion"
Delusions of Grandeur is one of those albums that every single song is good. Each song is strong, and that makes it very hard to try name stand out tracks, but the ones that I feel stand out the most are: "Fatal Warning" "Waiting" "Chase the Lies" and the best song being the ballad "Echoes"
All in all, I have to say that Circle II Circle has yet to put out a bad album, and I would recommend this album and all of their others to any one who likes any type of rock or metal.
ROCK ON!!!!
