This review has a couple of firsts for me. first off it was my first chance to use my new scoring system and it is also the first time I have had a chance to review a band's debut CD.

I discovered the band One Way Mirror while killing time sampling music in a local FYE. After the first couple of tracks I was hooked. One Way Mirror is Modern Metal band that uses the popular "Scream and Sing" style (That I do so love). As with all new bands the first thing everyone wants to know is who they sound like; I would say that One Way Mirror most reminds me of In Flames, with a little Nonpoint tossed in.

I was not very impressed with the production quality on this album. There are too many times (almost the whole album) that it just sounds muddy and distorted. I know they might have been going for this sound to give it the feeling of a live show but personally, on studio material I want to be able to tell what is going on so when I see them live and everything is muddy and distorted I know what is going on.

The songwriting and the Musicianship were fairly good, very catchy. The drumming was very impressive even though it did sound as if it was mixed badly. The bass does some very nice things during the album. The guitar work on the album is full of heavy and energetic riffs; however the solos and musical interludes come off as just weak.

The single "Destination Device" is a good song to show what this band has to offer and to hook fans. "Keeping me Away" and "Redream" are also note worthy songs, with my favorite song being "As We Are Now". The track "Empty Spaces" is the closest thing to a ballad on the album, and is a very good song. They also have a cover of the pop/dance song "Relax".

One Way Mirror has recorded a nice debut CD that should make them a name among metal fans. If they continue to grow they might even join the ranks of Soilwork (who they are on tour with now) as some of the more enjoyable metal of our time. I would not suggest that you add One Way Mirrors self-titled debut to your album of the year list, but I would recommend that you add it to your music collection. It is heavy, catchy, and FUN!

ROCK ON!!!!
