HAILS!!! To the Bringers of American Black Metal!!!!!
From the happy little town known as Los Angeles, Ca, where dreamers go to live happily ever after, flies forth the horned Dark Angel of Death known as Sothis! This American Symphonic Black Metal band is one of the few that is destined to earn America a seat next to Norway and its Scandinavian kindred in metal archives for years to come.
Sound of this Beast is a combination of constant synthesizers and piano work, constantly shredding guitar work, echoing grim vox and drumming that reminds us all so much of the greate Nicholas Howard Barker (ex- Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Old Man's Child, Atrocity, and Leaves' Eye). Could drummer Dross be Nicholas Barker out of retirement and in disguise? The vocal work of Drogoth is very reminiscent of Ihsahn's grim vox on the Emperor album "Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire & Demise" with a hint of Shagrath of Dimmu Borgir. While the work of keyboardist Asperia brings back fond memories of Mustis's work in Dimmu Borgir's "Spiritual Black Dimensions". So to review, take one part Emperor, three parts Dimmu Borgir, add enough guitars and bass to bring down the gates of Heaven and you have Sothis!
Sothis's album "De Oppresso Liber" was released September 2, 2008 from Candlelight USA. This album nine tracks of pure unholy warfare. Check out the tracks "Of Night and Silence," "Obsidian Throne," "Perpetual," and the title track "De Oppresso Liber" for especially impressive display of talent and malice.
I bestow upon this album a rating of 5 Morning stars!
