The Ascendicate is a Modern Metal band from North Carolina. They have just released their first CD under Solid State Records (most of you know the religious elements that come with being on Solid State Records, but this album is no where near overly religious even though it has its moments).
The best way for me to describe this album would be to compare it to a really fun roller-coaster. This album will get your blood pumping. For those who have been jones-ing for some good hard music, this is your fix.
The Ascendicate’s musical sound is the ever popular scream and sing style. Their choruses and many other parts of their music reminds me of the band Ill Nino. They have times in their songs when they sound an awful lot like Slipknot, and some of their riffs sound very Soilwork-ish, and in one track they use sound clips and it reminds me a lot of Living Sacrifice’s “Reborn” album. This album is full of some crushing breakdowns and some almost soothing melodic parts.
The production could be a little bit crisper, but it is not bad enough to complain about. The musicianship, well there is one thing I can say…..NO solos. Yep cause of that I almost called them Nu Metal, however, this album is full of some complex whoop-tail riffs, so I just could not do that. The drumming on the album is intense; I mean give an old guy a heart attack intense. The vocalist is as good a singer as he is a screamer. The Songwriting has some parts that can seem to be kind of redundant, but they always seem to change it up at just the right time. The lyrics, I will warn you now, are aggressively catchy. Be warned you might just bust out singing them in a crowded place.
All the songs on this album are very strong. “You and Me” has got to be the best song I have heard yet this year. The ballad “One Day Without You” is very radio friendly. “Scottish” “Burden” “Pride of the Brutish” and “A Bit of History” are just BRUTAL. “Fire That Kid” “Stay Right Here” “We Didn’t Click” and “Fighting Words” are just great enjoyable heavy songs with choruses that will stick with you.
For those of you who have been looking for the next great thing in hard music, it is here, and its name is The Ascendicate.
ROCK ON!!!!
